Youth Market Broiler & Roaster Project Workshop

January 14, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Wharton County Extension Office will be hosting a market broiler and roaster workshop on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Wharton County Youth Fairgrounds – Directors Room. This training is open to 4-H and FFA families, or potential youth livestock exhibitors. Guest Speaker, Curtis Vader will cover everything that the broiler exhibitor needs to know for a successful broiler or roaster project:  housing, lighting, feeding, house ventilation, health care, culling and selecting of show birds, etc.  With 30 years of poultry show experience and regularly judging Major and County poultry shows across Texas and Louisiana, Curtis Vader is a leader in the poultry show ring.  Outside of the show ring he enjoys teaching youth how to raise show poultry.    I encourage all broiler exhibitors, novice or experienced to attend this training.  To remain competitive in the poultry project, exhibitors must keep up with current information, and that’s why I offer this training every year.   I often hear exhibitors say “we’re not placing as high in the shows as we once did.”  If this is your situation, then attending workshops to learn something new, or attending a workshop as a place to have those conversations that help you to identify areas of improvement is what it takes. Please let us know that you’ll be coming by the morning of January 13th, by contacting Stacey at  979-532-3310, or by email, stacey.shanks@ag.tamu.edu
