Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Wharton County Office will host a  Soybean, Grain Sorghum, and Cotton Turn Row Meeting on Thursday, June 23, 2022.  The soybean turn row meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at the Howard and Dolly Wittig Farm in Lane City.  You may have seen the soybean variety plot from Hwy 60 in Lane City.  The soybean plot is located near the corner of Hwy 60 South and CR 122.  We’ll hear from Dr. Ron Schnell, our Agrilife Cropping Systems Specialist regarding soybean agronomics.  Dr. Dalton Ludwick will discuss insect management in soybeans.   Dr. March Welch, Extension Grain Marketing Specialist will give an update on the current soybean market.  Following the visit to the soybean plot we’ll proceed to the Grain Sorghum Variety Trail at 10:15 near Rod Grass Farm on CR 456.  Dr. Josh McGinty will discuss weed control in Grain Sorghum.  Dr. March Welch will review current market trends in Grain Sorghum.

The Cotton turn row meeting will begin at 11:15 a.m. in Pierce.  The cotton variety trial is located just north of Hwy 59 on CR 456 near Pierce.  We have a total of 10 cotton varieties in this year’s Replication Agronomic Cotton Evaluation (RACE) trial.  This is also a very large, replicated strip trial.  The purpose of the RACE trial is to generate accurate, replicated yield data on commercially available cotton varieties for our area of Texas.  Dr. Ben McKnight, Extension Cotton Specialist will discuss current observations in cotton research.  Dr. Dalton Ludwick will brief growers on cotton insect management.   Dr. Josh McGinty will review weed management in cotton. We’ll plan to conclude the turn row meeting around lunchtime.  3 CEUs will be offered for TDA pesticide license holders and 3 CCA credits have been applied for.  Please call the Extension Office by 5:00 p.m. on June 22nd  just to let us know that you’ll be attending.  A flyer for the June 23nd  turn-row meeting is available at https://wharton.agrilife.org   .  The flyer is also posted on our Facebook page Wharton County Agriculture – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.  The flyer includes maps and GPS coordinates for the two turn row meeting locations.  I hope to see you there!
